Costume Safety For Children

colonial-costumeSafety is one of most important concern for parents as they want to make sure children going out in their hallooween costumes are safe.

Avoid masks and opt for face paint instead. Masks can make it difficult for your child to see cars when crossing the street and obstructions in his or her path.

Make sure your child wears light-colored clothing to make him or her visible to motorists. Add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags so children are more visible.

Costumes should not be too baggy or too long to prevent tripping. Shoes should fit well and be comfortable (even if they don’t match the costume) to prevent tripping and falls.

Do not allow children to carry sharp objects. Swords, knives and other costume accessories should be made out of cardboard or other flexible materials.

Make or purchase costumes using  flame-resistant materials.
